The summer road trip season is here. This is a perfect time to grab the paper maps, pack some snacks and see where the road leads you. (Yes, I said “paper maps.”) Of course, gather the gadgets too but teach your children how to navigate from a map and utilize apps like Waze, iExit and GasBuddy.
To peak your children’s interest before and after a road trip, visit the library. Finds some books on the place you’ll visit. Have them use their own cameras for a scavenger hunt based on the facts found in the books. National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas goes state by state, sharing cool things to do, roadside attractions and even wacky traffic laws. For example, did you know that it’s illegal to hum on the streets of Cicero, IL, on Sundays?
